You may find yourself wondering when and how SCLS-supported PCs receive software updates.
As we mentioned in the Sep 24th post, "Upcoming Software Updates", we've been working on some updated documentation that spells out exactly which PCs get software updates on which days, and what library staff need to do to help that happen.
The PC Update chart page on the SCLS website now has all the details!
To summarize:
When updates occur
- Staff PCs are normally updated on Monday nights.
- Patron PCs receive updates every night.
What library staff need to do
- Staff PCs: Close programs and log out. Leave powered on.
- Patron PCs: Leave powered on.
- "Roaming" laptops: Plug in to power. Make sure wireless switch is on.*

* Roaming laptops have very special configurations. If they are plugged into power on their "regular" update day (they don't need to be turned on--- just plugged in!), they are set to automatically wake themselves up at night, receive updates over Enterprise Wireless, and shut themselves off again afterwards. How cool is that?
