If your library was one of those to receive additional bandwidth from BadgerNet, you may be wondering about timelines for PC/printer network convergence. This Technology News blog post from March covered the nitty gritty leading up to the bandwidth increase, but what happens after that?
Converting PCs on other networks into SCLS-supported PCs on the SCLS network
Once libraries have received their bandwidth upgrades, Craig and Andrew will be assessing each library's "Dan-supported" PCs and cabling, communicating any work that might need to be done by the library, and scheduling a time to convert the PCs to the standard SCLS-supported-PC configuration. (These steps were also done for libraries that did not receive bandwidth upgrades but had sufficient bandwidth.) There are a lot of PCs that will be seeing action (somewhere in the neighborhood of 365!). In addition to these PC conversions, Craig and Andrew are also rolling out Windows 7 to SCLS-supported staff PCs. As you can imagine, this is keeping them very busy!
If the BadgerNet bandwidth upgrades stay on track, all bandwidth upgrades should be complete by August 13th. We'll continue working our way through the list of libraries and converting PCs to the standard SCLS-supported PC configurations on the SCLS network ---- complete with automatic software updates, centrally managed antivirus software, and handy tools that enable remote PC support.
