Outreach staff of UW-Madison’s Science Alliance will introduce science activities and experiments that will inspire and delight participants of next year’s Summer Library Program. Presenters will include information about physics, movement, and physical fitness in their presentation that will get everyone up & moving and learning through hands-on experience.

Making Literature Come Alive for Reluctant Readers with Rob Reid
Reluctant readers are often turned off to reading and books because they have difficulty reading or they are bored with the books offered to them, or sometimes a combination of these factors. Rob Reid will discuss strategies to bring these children into the library through outreach and then keep them interested in literary-based activities once they are at the library. Some of the strategies include reading aloud specific passages, storytelling, and music.

Join us for this informal webinar to learn about ways that library staff in the region have retooled their incentive-based literacy programs to serve their communities and support their organizations' missions. Presenters from the South Central and Southwest Library Systems will discuss intrinsic rewards and will highlight altruistic, team-based, sustainable, and experiential incentive program ideas. A focus will be on the Summer Library Program. Incentive-based learning is attracting attention, so tune in and help frame this state and national discussion.

Sandra Bonnici-Hoecherl from the Madison Children's Museum
Sandra Bonnici-Hoecherl is a museum educator who uses her background in theater, the arts, and education to create thought-providing museum programs that educate and inspire. In this session Sandra will introduce fun and exciting science activities that encourage scientific inquiry and discovery that that will encourage children to explore the world around them through play, art, theater and hands-on activities. Introduce these activities next summer and continue to use them throughout the rest of the year!
