Monroe Public Library Reopening Celebration
Monroe Public Library will hold a Reopening Celebration open house on Thursday, October 24 from 4:00-6:00 PM. Everyone is invited for tours, treats, and music as we showcase the beautiful transformation made possible by the donors and our community.
George Culver Community Library Celebrates 100th Anniversary
Saturday, October 19, 11a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Join Us for the George Culver Community Library's 100th Anniversary Celebration!
Celebrate a century of knowledge, community, and growth at our special anniversary reception. Enjoy music across the decades, light refreshments and coffee, a chance to relive the library and Sauk City’s history through historical pictures, and test your knowledge with fun trivia!
Stay until 12:00pm to witness the sealing of a time capsule filled with memories and artifacts from the library's 100th year. We’ll also then close the Silent Auction bidding and announce winners!
We can't wait to celebrate the beautiful history of the library and our community with you all!
Black Earth Public Library Seeks Director
The Black Earth Public Library is seeking an innovative Library Director to serve as chief executive officer of the library, progress ongoing projects related to space planning and building construction, implement library policies and projects, and provide leadership to meet goals for improving public library service to the community. With a team of one part-time Circulation Manager, one part-time Youth Services Librarian, and two part-time Library Assistants, as well as Substitute Library Assistants and Library Pages, the ideal director will excel at leading a small, dedicated staff.
The Village of Black Earth is located in a beautiful part of Dane County with parks, hiking trails, and other scenic areas nearby. Black Earth has the feel of a small, tight knit community while being conveniently close to larger cities like Middleton and Madison (just 20 miles away). In 2020, a $27M referendum was passed to create a combined elementary school at the same location of the Wisconsin Heights Middle/High School. Education and learning are highly valued in Black Earth and Mazomanie and the library has an excellent relationship with the schools.
Minimum Qualifications:
Hold or be eligible for a minimum of Grade III certification. The educational requirement for Grade III certification are the successful completion of 54 semester hours, half of which must be in the liberal arts and sciences, at a college or university approved by an accrediting association of more than statewide standing, including or supplemented by the successful completion of a basic library management course for public librarians approved by the Department of Public Instruction, Division for Libraries and Community Learning. A flexible schedule to attend meetings throughout the day and evening is needed. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Two SCLS Libraries Awarded Flexible Facilities Program Grant
On Monday, October 7, Governor Evers announced the Flexible Facilities Program Grant awardees. Congratulations to Madison and New Glarus. For full press release, see Governor Tony Evers Official Website.
- Madison | $4,250,000
Funding will assist with the construction of a new public library and Imagination Center at Reindahl Park. The project will benefit over 19,300 individuals, including those who experience a higher rate of poverty and lowered access to internet and transportation. The new library will have meeting rooms, classrooms, a quiet reading room, and a family space. This project will offer free high-speed internet and computer access, and it will feature a Tech Hub with ten workstations and 15 laptops.
- New Glarus | $4,250,000
Funding will assist with the construction of a new public library. The project will benefit over 6,100 individuals, including those who face challenges related to living in a rural area with a lack of access to reliable high-speed internet. The new library space will have a children’s programming area, a study room, and a classroom with six desktop computers. This project will include the installation of fast and reliable internet, improved technology access, and private spaces to perform virtual activities related to work, education, and healthcare.

SCLS Foundation Cornerstone Honors
The South Central Library System Foundation held its annual Cornerstone Event on Thursday, October 3. Over 60 people were in attendance to celebrate the achievements of those who work and volunteer at our South Central Libraries. Jaime Healy-Plotkin was the recipient of the Cornerstone Award for her years of dedicated service to the SCLS board and various other library roles.
New this year were awards honoring those who work and volunteer at our libraries. The “Superheroes” that received awards were:
- Undercover Superhero- Emily Skelton, Lodi Public Library
- Go-To Superhero- Sue Mathwich, Columbus Public Library
- Community Superhero- Katy Hanousek, Poynette Public Library
- Volunteer Superhero- The Summer Lunch Group, Rio Community Library
