Governor Evers issued an executive order prohibiting the use of TikTok and 8 other vendors on any State-issued device including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones and other mobile devices. In support of Gov. Tony Evers’ Executive Order #184, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has banned the use of Tik Tok from DPI-owned and managed devices, and blocked network traffic to TikTok services. The state is researching the impact of TikTok on equipment and networks and will share their findings in the future.
SCLS is also banning TikTok from all SCLS-issued equipment used by SCLS staff including, but not limited to, desktop computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones and other mobile devices.
SCLS member libraries are counseled to follow their local municipal/ government agencies' policies.
Libby’s new search feature Deep Search allows patrons to discover more content, including titles not yet in our Digital Library. In addition, the new Notify Me feature will let patrons tag items they discover while using Deep Search to be notified if the library adds the item to the collection. OverDrive has a short tutorial (7 minutes) that will demonstrate these features for you and your patrons.
These two features will replace the Recommend to Library (RTL) option that was available on the website version of the Digital Library and the original OverDrive App. Both the Recommend to Library option and the OverDrive App will be sunsetting at the end of April. Patrons using RTL on the website or the app will see messaging directing them to Libby.
If you want to know more about these two features, OverDrive recently hosted a webinar called "Expand Content Discovery and Leverage Patron Interests with Libby."
Still Time to Register for the SCLS OverDrive Support Course
The SCLS OverDrive Support Course is a virtual 5-week course designed to help you provide front-line support to OverDrive users. There are no scheduled meeting times for the course, but it is paced week-to-week. Each week there is a lesson, a quiz on the material, and a mock support email to respond to. The typical time investment is 1-2 hours per week. It is expected that all coursework be completed two weeks after the course ends. Participants must have access to a computer and the internet to complete the coursework.
While not required, we recommend that at least one person per library complete this course; more are always welcome.
The Spring course runs from April 10 - May 12.
