Libby App and Wisconsin Digital Library Updates
The Libby app and the Wisconsin’s Digital Library site have been undergoing some updates and changes in anticipation of the sunsetting of the legacy OverDrive app. The legacy OverDrive app will be removed from various app stores (except the Amazon App Store) on February 23, 2022. OverDrive created a list of frequently asked questions about this transition that will help you and your patrons navigate this change.
Among the updates are a whole suite of accessibility enhancements in Libby. These include screen reader support, adjustable text size, adjustable playback speed for audiobooks, full screen menus, and an updated menu icon. For a full list of the updates, visit the Accessibility section of the Libby Help site.
And, did you know that you can use Libby on your desktop? If you visit https://libbyapp.com/, you and your patrons can get the full Libby experience without a mobile device. For patrons wanting to use Libby with the enhanced accessibility features and don’t have a mobile device, this is an excellent solution.
One final update to share. You may have noticed a brief period on Monday, February 7 when the magazines weren’t available for browsing or checkout. A new list of 3,955 magazines were added to OverDrive and are now available for checkout. Happy reading & listening!

Oceans of Possibilities—In Our Backyard

Water! A wonderous, fascinating, wet opportunity to explore literacy and have fun! Water also has a way of drawing us in and making us feel connected to our bodies (mostly water) and the earth (mostly water). Celebrating Earth’s Oceans, Protecting Our Future
STAR Net’s Our Planet: EARTH campaign is a celebration of NASA’s focus on understanding how Earth’s oceans are changing and their impact on sea life and our weather and climate systems. What happens in the ocean impacts not only our coasts but the whole country, because Earth is a global, dynamic system.
Public libraries across the U.S. and beyond are invited to participate in this campaign and take advantage of the many resources that are available on this campaign website and others that we link to. Resources include STAR Net’s STEM Activity Clearinghouse activities, videos, images, a media toolkit, live streaming events, and relevant Citizen Science activities.
During the summer of 2022, 16,000 libraries across the country will celebrate earth science in their summer learning programs. Join the fun!
