OverDrive Support Course to begin June 27
The next OverDrive Support Course will begin June 27 and continue through July 29. Registration is now open and limited to 15 participants.
All course materials are online and can be reviewed at your convenience. There will be weekly readings, quizzes, and email questions. While the course is online, it is interactive. Participants will receive weekly email questions from ‘pretend’ patrons and have to respond to their support request as if it were a real request.
For more information about the course, contact Jean Anderson, Continuing Education Consultant.
Register now for Trustee Training Week
A series of webinars during the week of Aug. 22-26 are designed to give trustees tools that will make their jobs easier, and registration is now open.
Sponsored by the South Central Library System, with financial support from 15 of the 17 Wisconsin Public Library Systems, plus the Division for Libraries and Technology and Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the event is called “Wisconsin Trustee Training Week” and will feature five webinars (at noon Monday-Friday) with different topics and speakers.
The names, dates and descriptions of each webinar are available in the last issue of Online Update, or on the Trustee Training Week website. You must register for each presentation you want to attend, so visit http://www.wistrusteetraining.com and get started.
Each presentation will run about 60 minutes, and webinars will be recorded for future viewing. Archives of last year’s programs are also available on the program website.
Jean Anderson, SCLS Continuing Education Consultant and current Vice-President of the Wisconsin Library Association (WLA), was featured in the WiLS May 2016 Member Interview.
PC and laptop order form update
The SCLS PC order form has been updated to include a current Dell PC and laptop.
SCLS is offering the Optiplex 3040 for staff and patron PCs with a starting price of $499. The biggest difference between the new 3040 model and the previous models is that it has eight USB ports -- four in the front and four in the back. The previous model had six USB ports in the back. The new laptop is the Dell Latitude E3570, which is a 15 inch laptop that includes the number pad on the keyboard.
The biggest difference between the old and new models is that we are starting to offer solid state drives for an extra charge. These drives are much faster than the standard hard drives we are all used too.
Dell is in the process of moving away from the docking stations they’ve supported for the last 10 years to a new USB docking station. The price is comparable to previous docking stations at $103.
