February & March editions of ‘Talk of the Town” now available
The February edition of "Talk of the Town" is now available. It features Shannon Schulz, director of the Portage Public Library, who answers the question "Why do we need libraries when we have the Internet?"
Also available now is the March edition of Talk of the Town, which features Richard MacDonald, director of the Stoughton Public Library, who talks about how libraries help job seekers.
The April edition of Talk of the Town will feature Svetha Hetzler, director of the Sun Prairie Public Library, and her guest Rex Owens (a local library advocate), talking about National Library Week.
Columbus Public Library just got a nice article in the Columbus Journal about its latest Root for Columbus ACTION Potluck: “I’ve never been much of a joiner, but Tuesday night I showed up at the Root for Columbus meeting at the Columbus Area Senior Center, camera in tow, thinking I was going to cover the event for the Journal, and before I knew it, I was brainstorming ideas with a group of creative people -- most of whom I’d never met before -- and volunteering to help organize a spring project. Shannon Schultz, director at Portage Public Library, announced earlier this week that she has accepted the position of Public Library Administration Consultant in the Division for Libraries and Technology at the Department of Public Instruction. She will begin her new position on April 4. Schultz, who has been at Portage for nearly seven years, said, “It has been an honor and a privilege to work with all of you. I will still be around, just serving the public, directors, and library systems in a different capacity. Working at Portage has been an incredible experience. It is a great library with an extremely supportive public, municipality, and library board.”
The March issue of WSLL @ Your Service has been published at http://wilawlibrary.gov/newsletter/1603.html.
SCLS has added a new web page listing Flipster support options for library staff and patrons. The EBSCO phone number and email contact form are in the support documentation available to patrons by clicking the "Help" link in Flipster.
On our Online Resources by Name page we've placed a new link under Flipster for "More Information, Help with Login Problems" which goes to this new page.
In addition to links to help resources, SCLS also has links to Flipster marketing materials.
How to spread the word to your community about the Big Library Read
The latest Big Library Read begins March 17 with readers having selected American Sniper as the title users from around the world will be reading and listening to at the same time. Given the popularity of the title this Big Library Read offers your library the opportunity to create new users by sharing the word about this event with your city or town. To that end, a marketing kit and discussion guide are available to help spread the news. You can find both on the Big Library Read website.
This marketing kit comes with a press release that you can share with your local media. There is also a template that you can simply fill in and then pass along to spread the word! You’ll also find printable materials and graphics to use on your social media pages. Don’t miss this great opportunity to grow your user group and spread the library love to your community!
