Digital Magazine Survey for Flipster and Zinio
Libraries are being asked to share the following information with customers as a way to gather information about Flipster and Zinio use. As you can see, the deadline to complete the survey is March 9.
Your library and the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium (WPLC) seek your help in guiding the development of Wisconsin's Digital Library.
The survey below aims to gather input about your experience with digital magazines. Please do continue on with the survey regardless of whether you have or have not used digital magazines, as you still have valuable information to share.
The survey will take up to 10 minutes to complete and will be open through March 9. We appreciate your time and look forward to providing improved library service to you!

RADD initiative at UW-Madison SLIS digitizes at-risk media
Recovering Analog and Digital Data (RADD), in the Laboratory Library at the School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) at UW-Madison, is a collection of equipment for digitizing audio cassettes, VHS tapes, floppy disks and other outmoded media formats. RADD’s main creator is SLIS Faculty Associate Dorothea Salo, who hopes that RADD can help improve access to the great backlog of audiovisual media tucked away in Wisconsin’s libraries, archives, museums and historical societies.
RADD recently collaborated with the Washington County Historical Society to convert a recording of the West Bend High School concert band, as well as several video and audio cassettes from the West Bend Company.
Salo would like to partner with more Wisconsin cultural heritage organizations with unique audiovisual collections. Contact her at mailto:[email protected] with potential projects!
Knight Foundation launches second News Challenge on Libraries
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation (KF) kicked off the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in Boston on the morning of January 10 with a session announcing its second News Challenge on Libraries. The challenge, which launches February 24, will address the question “How might libraries serve 21st century information needs?” Winners will receive a share of $3 million in funding toward their projects, including a select number of projects that will be considered for the Knight Prototype Fund.
