WiscNet information resources available
Next week the State Legislature is scheduled to begin debate on the 2011-13 Biennial State Budget, and two items of particular interest to libraries will be part of that discussion -- maintenance of effort and WiscNet.
On both issues, SCLS has used its advocacy list to reach out to library supporters, asking them to contact the governor and legislators. Regarding WiscNet, last week SCLS sent an email to the nearly 2,300 library customers on its advocacy email list, encouraging them to contact their legislators and ask them to delete sections 23-26 of Motion 489 before the budget bill is approved and sent to Gov. Walker for his signature.

Help get the word out about Food Share
Second Harvest and Second Harvest Heartland Food Banks are trying to get the word out about Food Share (formerly known as food stamps). The goal is to make sure that people who are struggling to make ends meet know about these resources. Libraries are great partners to share information about this benefit, and some libraries in the Indianhead Federated Library System (IFLS) already host outreach specialists who help people apply for benefits online.
Earlier this year, IFLS hosted a webinar about this topic, and an archived recording is available. Recently, the food banks approached Systems to ask for help disseminating information again. If you are interested or willing to put up a poster (8.5 x 11), some brochures, a table tent (an 8.5 x 11 sheet folded in half), or flyers (8.5 x 5.5), contact Shawn Brommer by July 1, 2011, and indicate the item(s) and amounts that you want for your library.
