Joy of Meetings ...

Is the title of an upcoming workshop being offered by the Department of Professional Development & Applied Studies at the UW.  This day long workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, November 18 at the Pyle Center on campus and costs $145.00.  If you regularly facilitate meetings and want some ideas to improve their effectiveness, check out this workshop!

RUSA Online Courses

In checking through my email, I came across an email from RUSA (Reference and User Services Association) talking about several new online courses being offered this fall.  The costs for the courses ranges from $100 to $190 (depending on if you're an ALA or RUSA member or a student).  Topics are: Genealogy 101, Reference Interview, Business Reference 101, Readers' Advisory 101, and Marketing Basics for Libraries.  Check out the RUSA site for more information.

Interested? Remember that CE Grant funds may be available to help with the cost of the courses.

New Book Blog

I came across a new book blog last week called EarlyWord.  According to the About page, the purpose of the blog is "to bring together the best thinking on the art of selecting books for public libraries. By giving readers what they want, when they want it, we believe libraries can increase their circulation and their support."

The blog includes a wealth of information and publishing news. The sidebar includes bestseller lists from Amazon, USA Today, New York Times, and many others. Also included are sections on Books to Movies, Fall Preview, Summer Picks, and links directly to publisher's catalogs.
