Last month at the WiLSWorld conference, Dan and I had the pleasure of presenting a talk about using wikis at work. One wiki we really enjoyed showing off was created and used by Middleton PL staff (major kudos to Sarah) for reference desk troubleshooting tips.
The "cheat sheet wiki," as it's called, uses a TiddlyWik. TiddlyWiki is really simple to use because it's just one HTML file that can be viewed in a browser. There's no software to configure and no hosting to find.
TiddlyWikis are well-suited to in-house use - you can save them on a staff computer, a shared drive, or even a staff web site. They're also easy to edit. Try it out today!
When you're adding an image to a web page, you often will want to wrap the text around it to achieve a more polished layout. There are a couple ways to do this using Contribute. Here's the easiest way. (Click on the images to view a larger version in a pop-up window.)
Read more about inline image editing at the Adobe Contribute Developer Center.
Via Search Engine Watch comes an article titled Savvy Little Searchers that rates 13 search engines on what's pertinent to 7- to 10-year olds, such as visual appeal, relevance, commercial vs. educational emphasis, and ease of use. Fact Monster and Quintura Kids got the highest recommendations.
If your library web site still has a page that lists search engines, this might be a good time to review what you're recommending.
