The first graders from the Vesper Community Academy are learning about our local community as part of our social studies curriculum. With Project Based Learning, we use the community members as experts to learn more and answer our questions. Our trip to the Lester Public Library of Vesper gave us a chance to see the people in the community working together to help one another. The employees at Kerry Ingredients did a book and movie drive for the library which, in turn, benefits the people of the Vesper community. The students were at the library to accept the books on behalf of the community. This was a great lesson for the students as they were able to meet employees of both the library and Kerry Ingredients, ask them questions about their jobs and their role in our community, and see first hand how people help one another. The students got more than just a social studies lesson. They learned a life lesson about compassion, empathy, and helpfulness.
