Presented on April 18, 2012 at Fitchburg Public Library.
It comes as no surprise that children’s environments influence their early learning. Public libraries provide quality materials and opportunities for young children to develop literacy skills and we are becoming more aware about ways that our library environments inspire children to explore, discover, and learn. Small changes to spaces for young children can enhance early reading, math and science skills; provide opportunities for young children to interact and practice social skills with one another; and serve as examples of developmentally appropriate spaces for parents and caregivers. Join us for this in-person workshop to learn more about Montessori educational approaches that nurture and inspire early learning and how to appropriately incorporate these methods and techniques into public library spaces. The presenter, Rebecca Katzenmeyer, is the directress of Toad Hill Children’s House, a Montessori preschool and kindergarten in Madison. WI. As an artist and designer Rebecca is inspired by her interests in biology and the human spirit.
This program is supported in part by Federal Library Services and Technology Act funds, awarded to the DPI by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.
