Much Ado About… Summer Library Programming 2009
Friday, February 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the SCLS Administration Offices, 5250 E. Terrace             Drive, Madison and Portage County Public Library in Stevens Point (via videoconference)

 Karen Wendt and Geri Cupery, Presenters

 Karen and Geri will present programming ideas for preschool, school-age, and young teens. The Much Ado workshop will include how to be creative for family nights at your library, reader’s theater, poetry reading and writing, and how to make your own journal. They will present art & craft ideas such as papermaking and facepainting workshops for tweens and teens, and nature and recycled art projects. They will share outlines for being creative at EC storytimes (What is EC? You’ll find out.) They will offer tips on how to use teens as volunteers for events and for summer reading registration and rewards. Finally, Geri and Karen will highlight a few ideas in the 2009 SLP Manual that they find noteworthy. Join us! It will be crazy creative chaos!
             Please bring: ice cream bucket (5 quart size) with lid (if you have one – we only need 10-12 total) and 3-4 sheets of comics from Sunday paper.

Targeting the Ages: Programming that hits the mark

Any library, whether it is school, public, academic, or special, is many things to the community it serves. A library offers the information patrons need to improve their quality of life. A library provides open access to technology and the world of online information, as well as guidance on navigating that world. A library also gives their community something that is less tangible, yet just as essential to improving their patrons’ lives: nourishment not just for the mind, but the spirit as well.     
            How do libraries do that? Through the programming opportunities they create.
In this program we will look at some of the innovative programming libraries today are creating to meet the evolving needs of their patrons. We will also provide a basic primer for anyone who has always wanted to plan a program, but didn’t know where or how to begin.
            College of DuPage workshops are streamed live to your desktop. A few days before the program, the program link will be emailed to registered participants.
