Good Afternoon All,
You asked for it and Gadget Training is finally here! During Gadget Training, you’ll have an opportunity to try out devices like an iPod, digital camera, GPS, Palm Handheld (with wireless Internet), USB flash drive, memory card reader, Creative Zen Video MP3 player, and PlayStation Portable. This is not only an opportunity to learn more about some of the devices your patrons are already using, but more importantly to get a broader sense of the kinds of technology that is available today. SCLS is offering six hands-on sessions - choose the one that best fits your schedule: July 17, 18, 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Space is limited so register early!
The Association for Rural and Small Libraries Annual Conference will be held on September 26-28 in Columbus, Ohio. See their website for more information. Registration deadline is September 17, 2007. Interested in attending but don't have the funds? CE Grant funding may be available for you - check the SCLS CE Grant page for more information.
Interested in becoming a Certified Public Library Administrator? PLA is offering nine approved courses for this program. They will address the following topics: Budget and Finance; Management of Technology; Strategic HR; Planning and Management of Buildings; Current Trends; Marketing; Fundraising; Politics and Networking: and Serving Diverse Populations. The nine PLA/CPLA courses are designed to give public librarians a solid foundation and working knowledge of core functions performed at the administrator-level (from PLA press release, 5/21/07). For more information on the CPLA program, visit the ALA-APA website.
Have a great weekend!
